Stopline: Reports of illegal contents still strikingly high

As the current Stopline annual report shows, in 2022 more than 33,000 reports were received by the report center against child sexual abuse material and national socialism on the internet. About 4,000 reported contents were classified as illegal.

Although this represents a 23.5% decrease in reports compared to 2021 (2021: more than 43,000 reports), the average number of reports received over many years remains strikingly high. The Stopline staff classified about 12 % of the reported contents, namely 4,048, as actually illegal (2021: 8,146 reported contents illegal).

It is striking that the sensitivity of internet users towards sexual abuse of minors remains high. Reports in this category make up - as in the years before - more than 99% of the contents classified as illegal.

The Stopline was initiated in 1998 by ISPA, the association of Internet Service Providers Austria. It is part of INHOPE, the international network of Internet report centers, and is financed by funds of the EU program "Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)" as well as by the Austrian domain registry nic.at.
