netidee: DEC112

The DEC112 app is an emergency call app for deaf and hearing-impaired persons with a chat function. In cases of emergency, the app connects via text-based notification to the fire department, police, and rescue. The development of basic functions and services of the app was funded by netidee, the funding program of the Internet Stiftung.

Since 2019, the smartphone app has been in operation throughout Austria and is available for everyone. Upon activation, the app first determines the local control center responsible for handling the emergency call and then automatically transmits the current location and user data. Subsequent communication is then carried out via text-based messaging.

DEC112’s partners include among others the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior and Notruf Niederösterreich.
