netidee Scholarships: Cloud-based quantum computing

Felix Zilk and his colleagues received the Best Paper Award for an article written as part of his research at the IEEE Computer Society Symposium on Very Large Scale Integration Systems.

The article, titled “Breaking Down Quantum Compilation: Profiling and Identifying Costly Passes,” analyzes the compilation process of programs in Qiskit, an open-source software framework for quantum computing developed by IBM, to find out which steps contribute most to the overall runtime. Preliminary results suggest that, depending on the type of program, tasks such as circuit optimization, gate synthesis, and hardware mapping can dominate compilation time — sometimes accounting for over 99% — highlighting key areas where performance improvements are most urgently needed.
