netidee projects: KOALAgirls
With gender-appropriate tutorials, female coaching and networking in a protected virtual space, girls and young women are taught IT topics such as programming and robotics in a creative way.
KOALAgirls is a networked learning world that is tailored to the needs of girls and includes
- Learning alone and self-directed with creative, gender-appropriate tutorials
- Learning through female coaching by women for "women", also as role models
- Learning through networking and exchange in a protected virtual space
The target group includes girls and young women between the ages of 9 and 15. They want to learn about STEM topics, including IT topics such as programming and robotics, in a creative way.
One of the main aims of the KOALAgirls project was to build a community of girls. This community is to be maintained by cultivating contacts and encouraging participation in existing courses (online and on-site). In addition, the KOALAgirls Online Coding Club will be continued, as it has been shown that the girls feel very comfortable in this setting.
Online coding clubs can be organized by interested companies, e.g. for the target group of employees' children. For this purpose, concepts for "HowTo Online Coding Clubs" and "HowTo Develop and HowTo Use Discord Server" were created for holding online clubs. By cloning the structure of the Discord server including the associated programs of the bot, it can be used by interested persons for their own projects.
