netidee projects: AsTeRICS Grid wins award

The use of the AsTeRICS software, which enables people without spoken language to communicate with each other, received the “Digital Humanism in Practice” award.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is the specialist field in which people without spoken language are given the opportunity to communicate. There are various approaches to this. One of these is apps that convey words and concepts using symbols and enable speech output using a computer voice.

With “AsTeRICS Grid”, free software for the AAC was developed and optimized under the AGPL license at the FH Technikum Wien and with the support of netidee. The software was used in a pilot project by Wiener Gesundheitsverbund, Dachverband der Wiener Sozialeinrichtungen and FH Technikum Wien at Klinik Floridsdorf. The project received the “Digital Humanism in Practice” award.
