15 Years of RcodeZero DNS
Having grown from a small project focused on .at security into a global anycast DNS solution, ipcom—a subsidiary of the Internet Foundation—now manages over 30 million domains for customers worldwide through RcodeZero.
RcodeZero DNS was launched in 2010 by a small team of experienced DNS experts as an internal project to secure the Austrian .at zone. The goal was to build a stable anycast network that initially included six international locations, including Frankfurt, Warsaw, Dublin, Brussels, Seattle, and New York. The reliable operation quickly led to the idea of offering the service externally as well.
As early as 2011, RcodeZero DNS acquired its first external customer with the Hungarian .hu domain. Internet service providers followed later that same year, enabling the company to establish itself early on in the secondary DNS market. At the same time, the infrastructure was continuously expanded. Already in its first year, the network grew to nine locations, including Los Angeles, Singapore, and Vienna.
Major registries have also increasingly come to rely on the service: In 2018, SIDN (.nl) chose RcodeZero DNS, followed in 2019 by EURid with the .eu domain. These partnerships underscore the company’s technical expertise and high level of flexibility.
Today, the global network spans over 60 locations across two independent clouds, offering maximum availability and performance. With more than 30 million managed domains and an international customer base, RcodeZero DNS has established itself as a reliable partner. The focus will remain on innovation, customer focus, and the continuous optimization of the service.
